- Subject: Curing Brain Ache in TS940s
-
- Hi All,
- Once again my 940 started to crash every 10 hours or so during continuous
- running (VERY annoying during contests).
- The problem this time is the crummy IC socket used to hold the EPROM
- onto the main processor board. The "earth" was floating about 2v on the
- IC when measured from above. No wonder it keeps crashing!
- SO...here's the cure....
-
- (i) Remove top cover of rig (8 big screws)
- (ii) Undo screws holding speaker assembly to processor box and PLL (4
- off). These are the ones that hold the speaker bracket to the PLL box,NOT
- the ones that hold on the PLL lid to it's box.
- (iii) Maneovure the speaker assembly over so that it rests in the space
- where the tuner goes (on mine there is enough wire to do this without
- undoing any connectors).
- (iv) Remove the eight screws holding the processor lid on.
- (v) Maneovure the lid (with display invertor board on it) over to the
- left (flip it over to outside the main case).
- (vi) Prise out the EPROM.
- (vii) Clean the pins of the EPROM.
- (viii)
- (viii) Push the EPROM in and out of the socket a few times.
- (ix) Solder a small jumper lead to the very top of the earth pin of
- the EPROM (bottom left corner of IC..like most TTL)
- (x) Re-install the EPROM.
- (xi) Solder the other end of the small jumper lead to the negative (right
- hand) pin of the Lithium battery.
- (xi) Re-assemble the hardware!
-
- Good DX!
